Happy Diwali!
I have been terrible irregular in blogging this year. Was surprised to see that my last post was in April.
The year has been interesting and exciting (to say the least). Entrepreneurship is a non-stop learning experience. Just when you think you have mastered the basics, you are thrown a new set of challenges that force you to both "un-learn" and "re-invent". But more on that in a another post.
In this post let me share with you 3 great books I read this year. I love reading books. (I found it quite amusing when the other day during a panel discussion at CUNY that I participated in a fellow panelist, didn't quite think so.)
1. Different : Escaping the Competitive Herd by a Harvard Prof. Youngme Moon. I like her writing style, I liked the fact that the lessons were very practical and applicable to any business type and I greatly enjoyed her ability to draw simple but imminently sensible conceptual frameworks around differentiation.
2. Bounce: Written by ex-Olympian and table tennis champ Mathew Syed. It is "Outliers" + much more. Debunks the "talent myth" associated with successful people. I liked how Mathew was able to use first hand experiences from the sports world to substantiate his points and give color to his ideas. (Word of caution: The content is dense and hence its a relatively slow read).
3. Business Model Generation: Written by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur. A MUST READ for any entrepreneur, nay.... any business person. I have not read "any book" (yes - any book) so far, that breaks down and explains the various business models in such a simple manner. The latest rating for the book on Amazon is 5 star! How many books have "ever" made this cut?
Happy Reading! Happy Growing!
